A PDF Rotator changes the orientation of PDF pages — rotating them 90°, 180°, or 270° clockwise or counterclockwise. This corrects one of the most common and annoying issues with scanned documents and mobile PDF exports: pages that are sideways or upside down.
Phone camera scanning: When photographing a document with a phone camera in landscape orientation, many apps and email clients send the photo in the camera's natural orientation rather than the display orientation. The result is a PDF page that's sideways when the recipient opens it.
Flatbed scanner misfeeds: Placing a document sideways on a flatbed scanner produces pages rotated 90°. This is particularly common with A4 documents placed in landscape orientation for copying.
Mixed-orientation documents: Technical documents often mix portrait pages (text-heavy sections) with landscape pages (wide tables, diagrams, blueprints). The viewer must rotate their head or device to read the landscape pages unless the document explicitly specifies per-page orientations.
OCR output: Some OCR software outputs all pages at a uniform orientation (typically portrait) regardless of how the original document was physically oriented.
Digital signatures and certification: Some PDF certification workflows produce output with altered page orientations that don't match the original visual intent.

PDF page rotation is stored as a metadata value in the PDF's page object (/Rotate: 90). The actual page content stream is unchanged; only the rendering instruction is updated.
